Linking Outcomes to Technology
TeacherKit App

The technology tool that I am using is a single application on an iPad, called “Teacher Kit”, providing record keeping, long and short term planning, and organization and scheduling tools. In describing and illustrating how a simple iPad application can aid in matters of quality teacher organization, this portable piece of technology opens doors to other possibilities for teachers providing simple and effective connections with the growing technological age.
As a Physical Education Major, a majority of classroom activities can be off campus and require extensive traveling and preparation. Having to carry multiple binders, papers, pens and worksheets for the sake of organization and classroom management makes this process less than ideal. As much as I enjoy having tangible and visible work, it has made it difficult in past practicums to travel and participate in the various exercise activities, preventing me from building authentic relationships and thoughtful communication with my students.
The Teacher Kit app shows the class average attendance, average grade as well as grade distribution, making it simple to keep students up to date in their course. This app will help ensure that record keeping as well as planning, organizing and scheduling are simple and effective while keeping with technological advances. With this app, not only would I limit the amount of paper I am carrying with me, but would also serve as a means to new grading assessment by connecting to other videoing and coaching/training applications. With cell phones and iPads becoming a more recognized teaching tool in our classrooms today, it only makes sense to include those pieces of technology into everyday teaching practices. The ability to have a portable, hand held, wireless technological tool to assist in the organization process proves how necessary these applications are in our growing society.
Reducing the excess amount of materials needed for classroom organization, an efficient iPad app will aid in ensuring a smooth transition from class to class and establish a well-ordered system for teacher organization. This process can also be benefited from the use of substitute teachers as information can be emailed and transferred to other accounts, creating a higher level of overall organization with teaching cohorts. With the application also being free, up to date, visually appealing and simple, the versatility of the TeacherKit App has provided many teachers with a paperless office of complete organization. The TeacherKit app accomplishes a variety of necessary components that aid in ensuring the teacher remains efficient and professional in their position.
In reference to the Education Act, both parents and students will be able to connect and view their course information, providing a means of communicating and demonstrating opportunities to be engaged and responsible for their learning. Students can monitor their progress in the course and develop skills to construct meaning in their work.
ICT Outcomes:
C4: Students will use organizational processes and tools to manage inquiry.
C7: Students will use electronic research techniques to construct personal knowledge and meaning.
F2: Students will understand the role of technology as it applies to self, work and society.
F3: Students will demonstrate a moral and ethical approach to the use of technology.
P2: Students will organize and manipulate data.

Group Me

Since cellphones have become increasingly popular over the last few years, it will be hard as a teacher to stop students from using them. Therefore, by positively and productively encouraging this form of technology, it can become a benefit to both the student’s learning and teacher’s classroom management. My second technology tool is something that promotes a healthy use of cellphones that contributes to collaborating, creativity and leaning. Group Me is a free group messaging service available for all phone, computer and tablet models that is able to coordinate a group of people in a private ‘chat room’. This app allows everyone to be involved regardless of types of technology, making it inclusive and available for everyone. Group Me can be connected between the specific students within the course allowing the ability to post, keep in touch, discuss and share meaningful information. The teacher would ‘host’ the group, allowing them full access to the groups content and members. Information posted in the group can be seen by everyone, making it important to discuss issues of respect, cyber bullying, and content that is suitable for the group’s intended purpose.
For academic reasons, the Group me application allows users to share photos and videos, view user galleries, like messages, share locations, create custom emojis and draft direct messages. Allotting various participation and grade marks through the Group Me tool can ensure that students remain engaged and enthusiastic about learning and participating in the course. For example, I would use the Group Me tool for a Physical Education class in encouraging physical activity on weekends and holidays. Students can post a picture and description of what they did, which can collectively contribute to an overall grade. With this, cellphones are constructively used to benefit the learning experience and provide ways that students can communicate with one another and the teacher.
In the Education Act, Group Me addresses multiple matters of student learning and on education rather than teaching. Being engaged thinkers and ethical citizens, Group Me requires a sense of requirements for both the student and the teacher. Remaining respectful and appropriate contributes to building life long skills, personal growth and wellbeing for the student. Applying this concept of learning provides the students with opportunities to be creative, work on communication skills, construct knowledge and apply an understanding of course content.
ICT Outcomes:
C1: Students will access, use and communicate information from a variety of technologies.
C5: Students will use technology to aid collaboration during inquiry.
F3: Students will demonstrate a moral and ethical approach to the use of technology.
F4: Students will become discerning consumers of mass media and electronic information.
P1: Student will compose, revise and edit text.
P3: Students will communicate through multimedia.
P6: Students will use communication technology to interact with others.
